Spot checks unearth unregistered weighing scales

The Ministry of Finance and Economy’s Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE), through the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), recently conducting spot checks at festive stalls in the capital found several unregistered weighing scales.

The festive stalls are being held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday celebration.

Five weighing and measuring machines were found to have violated Chapter 151 of the Weights and Measures Act 1983. Four units were found not registered with the SDT and one with an expired registration. The owners were issued reminders to rectify the issues at the SDT office within three working days. The stalls are at parking areas at the Royal Regalia Museum and Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital. – James Kon
