Sports school bags four medals in Sabah

Brunei Shotokan Karate Association (BSKA) Sports School athletes representing Brunei Darussalam competing at the 1st Shotokan Karate Open Championship Sabah bagged four medals at the championship at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Training Institute (ILPKK) in Sabah, Malaysia.

Mohammad Sawalal bin Hamdan secured one gold medal under mini cadets (12-13 years old) male individual kumite and +45 kilogramme (kg) category.

Mohammad Zul Fahmi bin Roslan under cadets (14-15 years old) male individual kumite and -57kg category, Mohammad Zul Farhan bin Roslan under senior (over 21 years old) male individual kumite and -75kg and Nur Saifullah Hazami bin Salim senior male individual kumite and -60kg, each won bronze medals.

BSKA sent seven athletes to represent the country at the championship that saw athletes Malaysia and Indonesia participating.

The athletes trained intensively prior to the championship with the help of coach Mohammad Ishak bin Haji Abu Bakar. They were assisted and managed during the tournament by Mohd Juanda bin Lamzi and Haji Adanan bin Haji Kadir.  – Lyna Mohamad
