The Special Education Framework and a guidebook for parents was officially launched at the Ministry of Education yesterday.

Acting Head of the Special Education Unit Eddy Fazlin bin Haji Amdan said the Special Education Framework and Guidebook for Parents and Teachers is one of the key deliverables of the department published in 2022.

The books contain comprehensive information on implementation of “Access, Participate, Achieve” (APA) and the 5As – (Accessibility, Adapted Curriculum, Adapted Instruction, Adapted Assessment, Acceptance) through information resources, human resources, physical resources and financial resources.

Around 2,600 differently-abled students are in primary, secondary and higher education schools in the country.

The Special Education Framework is a supplement to the 1997 edition of the Special Education Policy Guidelines published for inclusive and equitable quality education for differently-abled students.

The Special Education Framework and other publications are also references for educators and the community in obtaining support.

The materials were distributed during the event and digital copies can be downloaded from the Ministry of Education (MoE) website.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman attended as the guest of honour.

The ceremony also saw the presentation of certificates to 34 teachers who participated in the special education introduction course. The teachers were also officially appointed as ‘special education needs support educator’ at their schools.
