MADRID (AFP) – Spain’s vital tourism industry greeted 31.1 million foreign visitors last year, well below pre-pandemic levels and far short of the government’s target, official statistics showed yesterday.
The figure from the National Statistics Institute was 64 per cent higher than in 2020, when the pandemic decimated the travel sector worldwide.
But it remained 63 per cent below the 2019 figure, when 83.5 million tourists visited Spain.
