South Korea’s coffee imports top USD1bn

ANN/THE KOREA HERALD – South Korea’s imports of coffee surpassed USD1 billion, data from the Korea Customs Service revealed yesterday.

This is its second year straight of topping that amount.

In 2023, data recorded about USD1.11 billion in green and roasted coffee bean imports amounting to 193,000 tonnes of coffee, lower than the total from a year ago which recorded USD1.3 billion amounting to 205,000 tonnes of coffee. South Korea’s coffee imports had been on a steady rise since 2018 as an increasing number of Koreans enjoy the drink.

It imported 158,000 tonnes of coffee worth USD637.3 million in 2018 and reached the peak in 2022.

The 2023 data showed that more than one-fourth of imported coffee was from Brazil last year, with more than 50,000 tonnes valued at USD200 million.

Vietnamese coffee came in second with 40,000 tonnes, followed by Colombia, Ethiopia and Guatemala.
