South Korea’s business sentiment improves

SEOUL (XINHUA) – Sentiment among South Korean businesses over economic situations improved for the fourth straight month, central bank data showed yesterday.

The composite business sentiment index (CBSI) in all industries increased 2.8 points over the month to 95.7 in June, continuing to go up since March, according to the Bank of Korea.

The index, however, stayed below the long-term average of 100.

The CBSI among manufacturers climbed 3.0 points to 97.4 in June compared to last month, while the index for non-manufacturers gained 2.5 points to 94.3.

The results were based on a survey of 1,863 manufacturers and 1,468 non-manufacturers.

Manufacturers selected sluggish domestic demand, economic uncertainties and higher labour cost as key barriers to doing business, while non-manufacturers picked domestic demand slump, uncertain economic situations and higher labour cost.
