The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) recently participated in the 2022 South Korea (ROK)-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Meeting and the Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD) held in South Korea.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Strategy) at the MinDef Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud led the Brunei Darussalam delegation to the meetings.
The ROK-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Meeting and the SDD are two annual events organised by the South Korean Ministry of National Defence aiming to cement regional cooperation between South Korea and ASEAN member states, as well as promote cooperation on security and peace through dialogue.
This year, the ROK-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Meeting discussed measures for the development and implementation plans for ROK-ASEAN defence cooperation.
Meanwhile in the 11th SDD, themed ‘How to Address Complex Security Challenges: Fostering International Solidarity’, a variety of security issues were discussed focussing on Korean Peninsula issues, Asia-Pacific security, the role of military in hybrid warfare and international cooperation as well as technological-related issues.
This year’s SDD also held the first SDD Space Security Working Group to continue last year’s discussion on space security.
The deputy permanent secretary also had bilateral meetings with counterparts from the Philippines and South Korea to discuss defence engagements and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
