Son detained in Malaysian matricide case

BAHAU (ANN/THE STAR) – A 33-year-old man, believed to have mental health issues, has been detained in connection with the alleged murder of his mother and remanded for seven days, according to Jempol police chief Supt Hoo Chang Hook. 

The remand order, signed by magistrate Norshazwani Ishak on Tuesday, June 26, will keep the suspect in custody until July 2 to aid ongoing investigations.

Authorities apprehended the suspect, the eldest child of the 63-year-old victim, at their residence on Monday, June 25, following reports of a dispute earlier in the day. Upon arrival, police discovered the victim’s body in the front yard.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of death. The case is being treated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which pertains to murder.
