Two foreign nationals were each ordered to settle a BND5,000 fine for keeping smuggled
alcoholic beverages.
Filipina Margie, 41, and Filipino Ariola Pelonia, 36, would have to serve five months’ jail in default of payment of the fines.
The customs prosecutor informed Senior Magistrate Azrimah binti Abdul Rahman that a team of customs preventive officers raided the duo’s rented residence in Kampong Kilanas at 4.52pm on Thursday, where six bottles of wine and 84 cans of beer, along with BND2,000 cash believed to be proceeds dealing with the contraband were unearthed.
The court ordered the alcoholic beverages destroyed and forfeited the cash to the state.
