Zakat (tithe) recipients under the category of poor and destitute expressed joy after receiving new fishing boats, engines and trailers from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) yesterday.
Five boats along with engines and trailers costing BND40,610 in total were handed-over to the five recipients, whose plight received attention from MUIB to lessen their burden. The costs were paid with tithe money.
The recipients were Asrimi bin Amit and Ibrahim bin Ahad from Kampong Belais, Temburong District; Mohd Bakri bin Haji Abu Bakar from Kampong Rataie, Temburong District; Abdul Rahman bin Haji Rosli from Kampong Sungai Besar, Brunei-Muara District; and Azmi bin Haji Mazin from RPN Kampong Katok B, Brunei-Muara District.
In an interview with the Bulletin, Azmi, a father of three who are still in school, said he was eager to use the new boat to fish, as for many years he had to join his friends to fish at sea.
“If possible, I would go out today to the sea with my new boat,” said Azmi who also carries out auto repairs to earn a living.
“I wish to thank MUIB. I am delighted to receive such a contribution, and with this new boat I hope to earn an extra income for my family,” he added.
Ibrahim said, “I am deeply touched to receive this boat and thankful to Allah the Almighty after all these years of having to rely on my friends to be able to catch fish and crab along the Temburong River. I will take good care of this new boat.”
Acting Secretary of MUIB Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop presented the boats at Ken and Tan Sdn Bhd in Salar Industrial Estate, Jalan Muara.
It is hoped that the tithe distribution in the form of fishing boat, engine and trailer would motivate them to work hard to upgrade their living standards and self-betterment.
