Sharifah Adila Surya binti Malai Haji Abdullah, known as Teacher Didi, has been named one of ASEAN’s most inspiring teachers.

The award was presented by founder of the Saceda Youth Lead School Dr Dave Saceda during a ceremony at the Philippines Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, attended by Philippines Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn R Tirol-Ignacio.

Dr Saceda praised Teacher Didi for her dedication and contributions to nation-building in Brunei, highlighting her as a role model in the region.

Teacher Didi in her acceptance speech said she is honoured with the recognition, dedicating the award to her late father, her family and her team at Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei. As chief executive officer and vice president of SMARTER Brunei, she said, she is committed to creating an autism-friendly ASEAN.

The Saceda Youth Lead School, part of the National Youth Commission of the Philippines, has been empowering students, teachers and public officials for 26 years.

Since 2013, they have recognised teachers who show passion and commitment to making a positive impact in society.
