Slow down during wet weather

I was driving late night on Monday, and the weather was wet. It was raining heavily and I immediately slowed my pace.

I looked on to the other side of the road and was amazed to see three cars driving at full speed as if they were on a racing track.

As I work at night most of the time, it is common to see many driving at a speed as the roads are almost empty.

However, I think it is very important to slow down when the weather is wet and especially late at night. The roads are very slippery and a wrong move could result in an accident or can be fatal. The drivers who are speeding are not only endangering themselves, but also other road users like me.

Brunei roads are safe as most of us follow all road rules and we are very considerate. Even foreigners praise Bruneians for their patience while behind the wheel. In most countries this is not so. I personally have experienced this while travelling overseas.

When I am back in Brunei, driving my car, I admire the drivers for their patience and carefulness.

However, my message to all driving at night and when driving during wet weather, is to be more vigilant and to slow down.

Animals can attempt to cross the road and if we do brake we can lose control of the vehicle if driving at full speed. We are not only endangering ourselves but also the drivers behind us.

The authorities are doing their best to make our roads very safe. We too should adhere to the rules and go the extra mile to make the roads safe.

Most of us driving at night, are home bound. It is important to remember that our loved ones are waiting for us at home.

Next time you are behind the wheel, say your prayers first and go slow, especially if the weather is wet and if driving at night.
