Sky lanterns are fire hazard

237

I was shocked to learn that sky lanterns are back in vogue in Brunei, despite the fact that a number of countries have banned the use of these lanterns for the fire hazard that they pose.

Once they are released to the sky, it is impossible to predict the flight path.

All is good if the fire goes out before they fall or come into contact with a building or tree. But what if they are still lit as they descend? Imagine their potential danger to unsuspecting people and animals on the ground as well as forests and buildings.

My question to the authorities is: Are these sky lanterns allowed in the country?
