Shotokan Karate Brunei Darussalam (SKBD) emerged overall winners of the 40th Japan-Brunei Friendship Year Rengokai Karate Open Championship 2024 after accumulating a medal haul of 13 gold, 14 silver and 24 bronze at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
Wadokai Karate Brunei Darussalam (WKBD) finished runners-up after collecting a haul of 11 gold, 10 silver and five bronze while Shitoryu Karate Association Brunei Darussalam (SKABD) snatched third place with eight gold, three silver and 11 bronze.
Eight teams participated in the three-day meet including LCF Goshinryu Miri from Malaysia, Sports School (BSKA), Rengokai Karate Brunei Darussalam (RKBD), Shitoryu Karate Kuala Belait and International Gojukai Brunei Darussalam (IKGA).
Organised by Rengokai Karate Brunei Darussalam in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Department and the Brunei Darussalam Karate Federation, the meet saw the participation of around 200 young exponents.
