Six selected for RB’s apprenticeship programme

Six individuals have been selected to join Royal Brunei Airlines’ (RB) 28th intake of Engineering Apprentice Programme.

A signing ceremony was held yesterday at the RB Campus in the Capital for Awangku Mohd Hardifadillah bin Pengiran Maswani, Muhammad Syafiq bin Haji Hasnul Fikri, Muhammad Haziq Fadli bin Zambahri, Jing Yi Lim, Samuel Sim Guo Ping and Muaz Munawwir @ Abdul Muaz bin Haji Mohammad Affno. They were selected out of 483 candidates following a stringent assessment and selection process.

Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad and Acting Special Duties Officer at the MoE Rosimah Sumaimah binti Haji Matassim were the guests of honour. Signing the agreement on behalf of RB were its Chief Executive Officer Captain Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Chief People and Performance Officer Haji Abdul Nasir bin Haji Bolhassan and Senior Vice President of Ground Services Hajah Masrini binti Abdullah.

The apprentice programme has been running since 1978 to develop individuals on engineering capabilities to provide RB with aircraft maintenance and support. The national carrier has trained 260 local aircraft engineers. “To RB, having fully qualified engineers who are home grown within the RB training and development programme is critical, as we are the only airline in Brunei,” said Captain Sabirin. “We must be self-reliant to ensure our locals are properly trained.”

He added, “RB’s Engineering Apprentice programme is aligned with Brunei Vision 2035 – to have Bruneians who are well-educated, highly-skilled and accomplished as well as to ensure the nation has a dynamic and sustainable economy by 2035.

“Today is a momentous occasion for our new apprentices, who were chosen based on their outstanding performance and immense potential during the assessment period. RB has reasonable expectations for them to have a high level of determination to develop into confident engineers with the appropriate skills, as it has always been RB’s goal to prioritise safety and reliability of our assets for our guests.

“We hope they will enjoy their time to learn to be an engineer, work hard and return to Brunei with flying colours to be part of RB team,” Captain Sabirin said.

The new apprentices will begin engineering training at a fully-certified and accredited engineering school in Scotland soon.
