Six months jail, three whipping for runaway worker

The Magistrate’s Court yesterday handed a six months’ jail sentence with three whippings to a Bangladeshi worker who fled his employer and overstayed just over two years in the country.

Mujahid, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni. The defendant was arrested at 1.05am on September 27 when a team of Immigration enforcement personnel inspected his house in Kampong Sungai Buloh, Mentiri, according to Immigration Prosecutor Adi Yusra Adanan.

Authorities found the defendant not holding valid travel documents. They also discovered later after investigations that the defendant had fled his employer.
