(ANN/THE STAR) – Iconic Malaysian singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin is the latest victim of cybercriminals who are exploiting artificial intelligence (AI) to replicate her voice and appearance in a fraudulent scheme.
Unsuspecting victims are lured with the promise of a video call from the beloved singer, only to be met with an AI-generated simulation displaying her face and voice. These scams then trick individuals into parting with their money for fictitious rewards.
Over the weekend, Siti Nurhaliza took to social media to expose these deceptive activities, sharing a video showcasing the fabricated calls. “Fake. Do not believe the scammers.
They are using my name and picture, and even an AI voice to convince people. They also took my live videos with the intent to entrap and deceive people,” she warned.
In her plea to the public, Siti Nurhaliza emphasised that she has never organized any contests or offered cash rewards to anyone. “Do not be deceived when receiving these messages and video calls,” she urged.
The singer highlighted that numerous fraudsters have exploited her identity and image, often targeting the elderly. She called for increased awareness to prevent more people from falling victim to these scams.
