Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam arrived in Bandar Seri Begawan on Wednesday for his first overseas state visit since assuming office.
The president and delegation were greeted on arrival at the Brunei International Airport by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah.
The president’s state visit is at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izaddin Waddaulah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and also coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Brunei’s diplomatic relations with Singapore.
The president will receive a ceremonial welcome at Istana Nurul Iman and have an audience followed by a bilateral meeting with His Majesty, before attending a state banquet in the evening.
