    Singapore hit by flash floods

ANN/CNA – Heavy afternoon rain triggered flash floods in several parts of Singapore yesterday, according to the national water agency PUB.

The agency issued flood risk warnings for 13 locations, including Punggol, Yishun, Toa Payoh, and Bukit Timah, where intense rainfall caused high water levels in drains and canals.

Flash floods broke out along Yishun Avenue 7, along Punggol Way and along the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway. “PUB’s quick response team and the Land Transport Authority’s vehicle recovery crew and traffic marshal were deployed to provide assistance to motorists,” PUB said.

Flooding at all three locations subsided within an hour, it added.

The heaviest rainfall of around 114 millimetres was recorded in the northern part of Singapore between 12.55pm and 2.45pm.

This corresponds to 47 per cent of Singapore’s average monthly rainfall in April, and lies within the top two per cent of maximum daily rainfall records since 1978, PUB said.
