ANN/THE STAR – Simu Liu, known for his roles in blockbuster films like Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and his bestselling memoir, We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story, is now venturing into the realm of music.
The Canadian actor recently unveiled his debut EP, Anxious-Avoidant. In a press statement, the Barbie star expressed, “Anxious-Avoidant marks the initiation of my musical journey. I’ve always admired the transformative power of songwriting, and I hope these four tracks on the EP provide listeners with a glimpse into a different facet of who I am.”
Liu co-wrote the four songs featured in this EP. One of his collaborators is The Jonas Brothers’ Joe Jonas.
“From love to heartbreak, these songs all speak to my personal experiences navigating through life,” the 34-year-old artiste wrote on Instagram.
“I hope you’ll all give it a listen … and of course, am always grateful beyond words for everyone that has been a part of my artistic journey,” he added.
The title of the EP is a reference to a social condition where one is afraid of intimacy and commitment.
Liu, who is currently dating Marketing Director Allison Hsu, explained the reason he chose the title of his EP, “The name comes from a form of attachment style, which was recently popularised in culture and media.
“Anxious-avoidants are some of the most turbulent and insecure daters, and that also happens to be exactly what I am. To celebrate, I decided to write songs that encapsulated this chaos.”
He added that his music is inspired by artistes such as Coldplay, One Republic, John Mayer and Lewis Capaldi. – Zai Kamal
