Significant milestone in welfare management

With the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) announced that the Zakat Collection and Distribution Division at the Islamic Religious Council Department has been upgraded to the Zakat, Waqaf and Baitulmal Management Department at the ministry’s ground floor.

The launch was held at the MoRA’s building yesterday.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the President of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), as the guest of honour unveiled the plaque at the opening.

The minister toured the department’s office focusing on counter services, Zakat Collection Counter and Self-Service Counter followed by the presentation of tablets, computers and a scanner by imagine Sdn Bhd.

The MoRA added that the equipment was to support the governance and work process for zakat investigation and distribution at the Zakat, Waqaf and Baitulmal Management Department through the National Welfare System so that it moves more efficiently and in a dynamic manner.

The Zakat, Waqaf and Baitulmal Management Department has six core divisions: Administration and Finance; Waqaf and Baitulmal; Zakat; System and Information Data; Planning, Research and Project Implementation; and Zakat recipients empowerment programme.

Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, MUIB members, committee members for issuance of zakat money, permanent secretary at the MoRA and heads of departments also attended. – Azlan Othman
