Significance of forging scholar-ruler harmony

Muslim scholars (Ulama) maintain good ties with a nation’s ruler who appreciates scholars’ meritorious services. If the ruler of a nation is pious, gets along well with Muslim scholars and appreciates their services in developing the people, Allah the Almighty will bring His mercy to the country and the nation, even to creatures other than humans.

This was highlighted by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned in his pre-recorded keynote address at the international Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Haji Harussani Haji Zakaria Thinkers Seminar in Muslim Ummah Development at Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Malaysia yesterday.

“Our ruler will not dishearten and hurt the Ulama and make them bithanah (close companions). That’s why their thrones are eternal, lasting for hundreds of years without perishing because they will never be cruel towards the Ulama,” he said.

“This is the thought of the Ulama, especially muftis, to maintain a good and friendly relationship with the ruler, faithfully uphold the orders, and when necessary, offer religious advice that is useful for the palace and the development of the Ummah.”

The two-day seminar which started yesterday, organised by the Islamic Studies and Social Sciences Faculty of Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, Perak, Malaysia.

Other scholars also presented papers namely Perak Darul Redzuan State Mufti, Chief Syarie Judge and lecturers from higher institutions.
