Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) opened the 7th PRISM UBD Short Film Festival with its opening screening at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre on Friday.
The festival, celebrating a showcase of creative storytelling, film and artistic expression, will see the Award Ceremony on December 5. PRISM continues to grow, aiming to become an ASEAN-level film festival. Since 2022, it has been part of the ASEAN University Network on Culture and the Arts (AUN-CA), which promotes creativity and culture across the region.
The 2024 festival features over 100 films from 19 universities across six ASEAN member countries and Japan and Romania. Submissions span genres from public service announcements (PSAs), comedy, drama, animation and experimental and smartphone-made shorts. Supported by UBD’s Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Sustainability), 51 Sustainable Development Goals-themed PSAs were received, with only this category open to professionals.
“PRISM is not just a celebration of the seventh art form; it is an opportunity to connect, learn, and where talent across ASEAN can converge,” said Lecturer in the Design and Creative Industries (DCI) programme PRISM’s co-organiser Dr Yong Liu.
