Short film competition winners celebrated

The winners of the best short film competition were celebrated during the BEST (Help, Empathy, Love, Responsibility) Week prize presentation at Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre yesterday.

Rataie Primary School won the primary school category through its clever use of social media, incorporating elements of cyberbullying.

Sayyidina Othman Secondary School and Tutong Sixth Form Centre won the secondary and sixth form categories, with videos highlighting the impact of bullying and the importance of resilience and support.

The guest of honour, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, presented prizes to the winners.

Thirty schools participated in the short video competition while six schools from each cluster were also feted for best activity carried out throughout the BEST Week programme.

Acting Head of Counselling Division at the MoE as Co-Chairperson of the BEST Week programme said, “Cyberbullying refers to harassing, blackmailing, insulting, or bullying through digital platforms.”

She noted its effects, including “stress, anxiety, emotional disturbances, sleep problems, and social isolation,” which can lead to depression in serious cases.

The BEST Week programme is an ongoing initiative by the MoE aimed to tackle and prevent bullying, including cyberbullying among students at schools. – Fadhil Yunus
