ANN/THE STAR – A ship with 11 crew members was reported to have sunk after experiencing a leakage due to huge waves in the waters of the Malacca Strait on Monday.
Head of the Pekanbaru rescue agency Budi Cahyadi said that the ship, named KM Lintang Timur Samudera, was on a voyage from Tanjung Balai Asahan to Malaysia.
“The ship experienced a leakage due to being hit by huge waves at the ‘one fathom bank’,” he said in a statement.
The rescue agency coordinated with other rescue agencies, namely in Medan, and the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) in Dumai, as well as the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
