Shedding light on CIPTA 2023

The Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Award 2023 Webinar was held yesterday through Zoom platform. CIPTA 2023 is the 10th edition of the biennial competition organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd.

The webinar was aimed at raising awareness on the ongoing CIPTA 2023 competition and stimulate interest in participating in the competition.

The webinar was attended by representatives from universities, schools, industries and participants of ASEAN member states.

Dr Lim Pang Jen and Pengiran Dr Rafidah binti Pengiran Haji Petra from CIPTA 2023’s Technical Committee and Dr Aida Maryam binti Haji Basri from CIPTA 2023’s Secretariat Committee presented the importance of nurturing creativity and innovation as well as their relevance in the CIPTA competition.

This was followed by technical briefings from CIPTA 2023 Technical Committee where the categories, rules and regulations, prizes and awards, important dates and judging process were presented.

The event continued with a question-and-answer session followed by a video showcase of past winners of CIPTA projects.

Themed ‘Innovations for Sustainable Development Goals’, the Crown Prince CIPTA Award competition has three categories – Local Categories, Smart Junior Competition and ASEAN Categories.

The Local Categories comprise Category 1: Creating New Product, Process or Technology; Category 2: Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology; and Category 3: Creating New or Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology by Young Inventors.

The Smart Junior Competition is open to Bruneian school students from lower secondary school students.

The ASEAN Categories is divided into two – New Invention and Innovation Category and Young Inventor Category.

Each entry will be judged based on its novelty and creativity; deployment of the end product; social, economic and sustainable design considerations; and the project report and presentation.

Assessment of submitted projects will be conducted in two stages starting with the preliminary assessment. Only qualified entries will be allowed to proceed to the final assessment.

Winners of the Local Categories in Categories 1 and 2 as well as the ASEAN Category – New Invention and Innovation Category are eligible to compete for the Crown Prince Special Award, which includes a BND8,000 cash prize and a trophy.

The competition encompasses all areas of science, technology and engineering. It is open to all schools, technical and tertiary academic institutions, government and private organisations and the public. The deadline for participating in the CIPTA 2023 is January 9, 2023.
