Sharpening cooking, entrepreneurial skills

Seven women yesterday completed the first of its kind Women’s Community Programme: Cook for Good organised by the Community Development Department (JAPEM) under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) in collaboration with the Youth Development Centre (PPB).

Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abdul Salam launched the programme, held in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2024, during a ceremony at the PPB.

PPB trainers Juraidah binti Haji Hamid and Nur ‘Aeidah binti Haji Kamis facilitated the programme involving participants from selected JAPEM clients and dishes inspired by viral cooking recipes from Malaysian influencer Khairul Aming.

The programme, in accordance with the theme of International Women’s Day 2024 ‘Investment in Women: Accelerate Progress’, aimed to empower women to be able to start businesses with their cooking skills as well as support women in entrepreneurship and build their confidence to start their business in the culinary industry.

The programme also encouraged the use of information technology such as social media as a source of improvement and inspiration.

Following the launch, Yang Berhormat Hajah Safiah viewed the food prepared by the participants. The ceremony ended with the LegCo member presenting souvenirs and certificates.
