    Sharing Ramadhan blessings

    Assistance for the needy

    Ashabul Akhyar Youth Group from Kampong Lumapas Mosque organised the first-ever ‘Jom Berbagi Rezeki’ programme yesterday, distributing food and basic necessities among underprivileged families in Mukim Lumapas and its surrounding areas.

    Some 43 recipients were identified for the programme. The initiative aimed at providing assistance to the needy, including the poor asnaf, and underprivileged families, easing their burden in preparation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri while fostering the spirit of giving during Ramadhan.

    The event also sought to strengthen ties between the mosque, youth and the local community while raising awareness of the importance of sharing blessings during Ramadhan.

    ‘Bubur lambuk’ for public

    The Persatuan Kebajikan Melayu Se-Malaysia (PKMS) recently organised the bubur lambuk programme and a gathering ceremony in conjunction with the Nuzul Al-Quran celebration.

    In the bubur lambuk programme, PKMS members and volunteers from the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) and Project FEED prepared nearly 1,000 containers of bubur lambuk and distributed among the public, Project FEED and mosques around Brunei-Muara District. Meanwhile, the gathering ceremony was a collaborative programme between PKMS and the High Commission of Malaysia in Brunei Darussalam.

    It began with an opening speech by Malaysian High Commissioner-Designate to Brunei Darusalam Datuk Mohd Aini Atan followed by the recitation of verses 183-185 of Surah Al-Baqarah by PKMS member Abdul Karim.

    The ceremony continued with a Tadabbur session led by Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College lecturer Associate Professor Dr Mohd Shahril bin Ahmad Razimi and proceeded with iftar and mass Maghrib, Isyak, Sunnat Tarawih and Witir prayers. – Lyna Mohamad

    Association distributes aid

    The Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) of Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (MDPMAMB) in collaboration with the Welfare and Community Volunteer Group held the Golden Jubilee charity drive, distributing donations among underprivileged families and orphans in Kampong Sungai Besar.

    Some 27 underprivileged families and 19 orphaned children from Kampong Sungai Besar received aid in the form of essential goods.

    A PIBG Executive Committee and the Welfare and Community Volunteer Group delegation visited three selected underprivileged families to deliver donations.

    The event, at Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque, began with speeches from Welfare and Community Group Chairman Abidin bin Haji Musa and PIBG Executive Committee (AJKT) Chairman for the 2024-2026 session Md Zain bin Haji Mohiddin. The event also saw a speech from Penghulu of Mukim Kota Batu Rasli bin Taram and concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat. The initiative is part of MDPMAMB’s Golden Jubilee celebration and aligns with the PIBG’s efforts to extend contributions during Ramadhan.

    Initiative helps unsung heroes

    Persatuan Kemajuan Insan (KESAN) held a community-driven initiative under its signature programme KESAN Memberi, themed ‘Remember Them – Unsung Heroes’.

    The event was held at the multi-purpose hall of Brunei History Centre on March 23.

    The event brought together over 30 KESAN members, engaging in donation drives, meal preparation, group bonding activities, iftar and Sunnat Tarawih prayers.

    The KESAN members covered Kampong Serusop, Kampong Kiulap, Kampong Menglait and the capital distributing iftar meals among 100 unsung heroes. The campaign aimed at giving back to the often-overlooked individuals who continue to work throughout the day during Ramadhan, including petrol station attendants, street vendors and others.

    Delivering Ramadhan aid

    The Islamic Studies Department in collaboration with Abdul Razak Holdings Group of Hotels (ARH) and the Brunei Four-Wheel Drive Association (BfWDA) organised a donation programme to assist underprivileged families.

    The contributions were delivered to five families in the Temburong District and a family in RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan.

    Acting Director of Islamic Studies Haji Suhaimei bin Haji Besar, BfWDA Deputy President Mazlani bin Mahadi and representatives from the three organising parties handed over
    the donations.

    Lending a helping hand

    The Brunei Darussalam Arbitration Centre (BDAC) organised its annual Ramadhan Drive as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

    BDAC supported eight families in need by giving household items and monetary donations.

    The donation delivery was lead by BDAC Chairperson Radin Safiee bin Radin Mas Basiuni accompanied by senior management and officers of BDAC, who delivered to all districts.

    BDAC aimed at creating a culture of generosity and social responsibility within the organisation while contributing to the well-being of those in need.

    Joy of sharing

    RHB Bank Berhad (Brunei Operations) distributed over 500 portions of bubur lambuk among members of the public via drive-thru at its branch in Arches, Jalan Pasar Baharu recently.

    “This is our annual tradition at RHB Brunei aimed at promoting the joy of sharing during Ramadhan. Members of the public are invited to collect bubur lambuk at RHB Brunei. We are also organising a sungkai get-together with orphans and staff of RHB Bank Brunei,” said Chief Executive Officer of RHB Bank (Brunei Operations) Tunku Muhammad Firdaus bin Tunku Yahaya.

    The event continued with a mass recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil ceremony followed by the distribution of gifts to orphans from Kampong Madang and Kampong Manggis.

    The managing director and a representative from RHB Bank Berhad’s Group International Business were also present.

    Giving back this Ramadhan

    Some 48 families from the Brunei-Muara District enjoyed an afternoon of shopping at Hua Ho Manggis and Hua Ho Yayasan and iftar during the final instalment of Baiduri Bank’s ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan 9’.

    The families were identified by returning strategic partner, the Council for the Welfare of Persons with Different Abilities (MKOKU).

    MKOKU President Malai Didi @ Sharifah Adila Surya binti Malai Haji Abdullah said, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Baiduri Bank, Indera Motors Sdn Bhd, GHK Motors Sdn Bhd and Inchcape Brunei for the support.

    “All the volunteers have demonstrated that they are inclusive, empathetic and compassionate, and it has truly made a difference for all the families involved. Raising and supporting individuals with disabilities comes with significant financial challenges, and this generosity throughout Ramadhan has eased burdens and brought joy to so many households.”

    Baiduri Bank Chief Executive Officer Ti Eng Hui said, “We are grateful for the work that MKOKU continues to do – not just through this initiative, but in their day-to-day efforts to support people with disabilities and raise awareness.

    Baiduri Bank’s management committee comprising Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Group Treasury and Institutional Banking Pengiran Azaleen bin Pengiran Dato Haji Mustapha, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Consumer Banking Manuel Bulens, Head of Corporate Banking and Trade Finance Leonard Lee, Head of Institutional Banking Awangku Nor Muhammad Nizam bin Pengiran Haji Tengah, Head of Group Asset Recovery Management Yvonne Chan and Head of Internal Audit Stephen Nelson were present.

    Over 90 families from all four districts joined this year’s initiative.

    As in previous years, the initiative was supported by over 180 volunteers from Baiduri Cares, an internal volunteering programme that enables employees from Baiduri Bank and its sister companies – Baiduri Finance and Baiduri Capital – to contribute their time and energy to community-focused activities.

    100 meals distributed

    Green Brunei prepared 100 packs of meals and distributed the packs among two mosques on March 21.

    The meals were distributed between Kampong Lambak Mosque and RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan Mosque. The meals were cooked by Green Brunei staff and volunteers.

    Through this initiative, Green Brunei remains committed to fostering a culture of generosity within the community. Green Brunei hopes to inspire more individuals and organisations to give back, strengthening the spirit of compassion and unity during Ramadhan and beyond.
