Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad told the youth participating in the 47th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) in Tokyo, Japan, to gain experience and useful knowledge which can be shared among the youth in the country and to always maintain good ethics.
The minister said this when handing over the national flag to the head of delegation at a ceremony at the Brunei International Airport on Tuesday.
The Youth and Sports Department under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports sent a delegation to join the 10-day programme starting yesterday. The delegation comprises national leader Hajah Siti Shamsiah binti Haji Sajali with 10 youth aged between 18 and 33 led by Chief of Youth Muhammad Asyraf bin Zulkipli and Assistant Chief of Youth Nurul Hazirah binti Haji Jahari.
Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru handed over the flight tickets to the head of delegation.
Themed ‘What youth can do in the new era of cooperation towards the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation’, the programme will discuss five main topics related to the Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education; Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment; Economic Growth and Sustainable Cities and Communities; Energy, Measures against Climate Change, Recycling-oriented Society and Good Health and Well-being.
The 47th SSEAYP also took place online for two days, covering introduction session among youth from ASEAN member countries and Japan before the physical gathering in Tokyo.
The programme aims to promote friendship and understanding, youth exchange between Japan and ASEAN member countries including the Sultanate and as a platform for youth to share knowledge and forge friendship. – James Kon
