Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd held a scholarship signing ceremony with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and another signing with Politeknik Brunei (PB) and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) on the conditional offer of employment (CoE) yesterday.
Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib was the guest of honour.
Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo was also in attendance.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by opening remarks from Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hengyi Industries Chen Lian Cai.
During the scholarship signing ceremony, 20 students from UBD signed the agreement with UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle as the witness.
The students represent the 11th batch to receive scholarships under the Joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme, a collaborative effort between Hengyi Industries, UBD and Zhejiang University (ZJU), bringing a total scholarship presented to the students at 187.
The students will undergo four years of studies, two years at UBD, one and a half years at ZJU, and a six-month internship with Hengyi Industries.
The event proceeded with the presentation of CoE to the 2022 intake of students from PB and IBTE under the joint collaboration programmes.
Some 145 students from PB and 35 students from IBTE received the CoE in the presence of PB Acting Director Lim Kian Boon and IBTE CEO and Director of Technical Education Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli.
These joint collaboration programmes, created in partnership with Hengyi Industries, PB, IBTE and Lanzhou Petrochemical University of Vocational Technology (LPUVT), offer various programmes to PB and IBTE students.
The programmes consist of three-year courses in which students will undergo two years of studies at the respective institutions, and a year of industrial-based learning/on-job-training with Hengyi Industries at Pulau Muara Besar.
A total of 473 CoE have been awarded to the students of PB and IBTE so far.
The joint scholarship and collaboration programme is part of Hengyi Future-Ready, an initiative aimed at nurturing the Sultanate’s youth into highly-skilled individuals, bringing the nation closer to realising Brunei Vision 2035.
