Service delivery needs overhaul

I recently made an application for the birth certificate of my newborn. The officer said to wait for a text to pick it up when it was ready for collection.

A month went by, and no text messages in sight. As a full-time employee, who commutes between districts, I didn’t have the time to drop by their office to check on the progress. So I did the next best thing – call the office. Despite phoning multiple times a day, no one answered. I tried other numbers with the same result.

It was almost two months since the application was filed when I decided to take advantage of my leave to visit the office. To my surprise, the birth certificate had been ready for collection for a long time. Yet no one even bothered to send me a text?

Perhaps it’s high time the authorities consider implementing a “Plan. Do. Check. Act” work procedure to improve the public service delivery system.
