Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM) paid tribute to service champions for their dedication and contribution during a ceremony at Tarindak D’Seni yesterday, as part of Service Champion Day.

Permanent Secretary of the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office cum guest of honour Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya awarded long service certificates to individuals who had served between 20 and 35 years.

Haji Azhar expressed confidence that petrol stations nationwide will achieve ‘goal zero’ or be incident-free by strictly adhering to safety procedures at petrol stations.

“Alhamdulillah, I have understood that we have today reached 105 days without a nozzle pull-out incident. Congratulations to all petrol stations and BSM for this achievement.

“Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam as the central authority regulating Brunei Darussalam’s oil and gas sector will continue to support petrol stations in together increasing the level of safety by involving and increasing continuous monitoring of petrol stations. The authority consciously carries out scheduled monitoring of petrol stations nationwide.

Identified improvements will be shared with the respective petrol station and BSM to ensure high safety standard for station workers and the public,” Haji Azhar said.

Certificates of appreciation were also presented to 37 health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) retail ambassadors; while six station managers and owners were awarded certificates for completing the retail start-up course.

BSM Managing Director Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil praised the service champions for their role in providing a safe refuelling environment and experience to customers at Shell retail stations.

He expressed hopes that the appointment of HSSE retail ambassadors will create a norm for the public to follow the rules, and subsequently ensure Shell retail stations remain incident-free.

Seventeen service champions received awards for their long service at Shell retail stations.

BSM has also appointed 37 HSSE retail ambassadors tasked with the implementation of the HSSE process and compliance with HSSE regulations, including monitoring and reporting HSSE performance at the stations. They will also provide guidance and work closely with service champions to help raise public awareness on safety at Shell retail stations.

The HSSE retail ambassadors have completed courses on first aid training, handling difficult customers and emergency response procedures.

Meanwhile, the retail start- up course was held for the first time under BSM’s Retail Academy programme, aimed at providing owners, operators and managers skills in managing Shell retail stations.

As a trusted and committed mobility partner, safety remains a priority to BSM. Last March, BSM logged seven million hours without lost time injury (LTI). This commitment is strengthened further with the launch of BSM’s fourth series ‘Fill Safe, Feel Safe’ safety awareness campaign to provide a safe refuelling environment and experience for customers and service champions at Shell retail stations.
