Seniors gain insight into cataracts, blindness

The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) Library in Kampong Pandan, Belait District yesterday organised a roadshow to educate senior citizens on the signs and negative impact of cataracts.

The roadshow was led by a group of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) medical students Permata, with support from the Health Promotion Centre at the Ministry of Health and the Eye Centre of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital. The seniors underwent basic medical eye examinations and were briefed on cataracts and blindness by the students and a representative from the Eye Centre.

Permata representative Nur Izzah Insyirah binti Mohd Zin shared that the roadshow was part of the group’s ongoing project to raise awareness and collect data on cataracts and blindness.

The group held similar roadshows in the Tutong and Brunei-Muara districts and plans to host more in the near future. – Daniel Lim
