Senior official to go on trial for graft in May 2024

The Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday fixed trial dates for a graft case involving Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, 51, who denied all charges of misconduct in public office. Senior Magistrate Azrimah binti Abdul Rahman set the hearing to run from May 20 to 30, 2024.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Dayangku Didi-Nuraza binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Latiff’s charges against the defendant alleges him of abusing public trust and misconduct after allowing BND9,500 to be deposited into his personal bank account.

The deposit came from an event manager participating in the Brunei December Festival 2020, which was under the defendant’s purview.

He is also charged with misconduct after allegedly favouring two hotels in exchange for not having to make immediate payments after checkout. – Fadley Faisal
