    Senior official denies charges in graft case

    Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, 51, on Monday denied all charges of misconduct in public office.

    Following his not guilty pleas, Senior Magistrate Harnita Zelda Skinner fixed September 18 for case management.

    Defence Counsels Roy Prabhakaran and Kamal Shaari from law firm Yusof Halim and Partners represent the defendant.

    Deputy Public Prosecutor Dayangku Didi-Nuraza binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Latiff’s charges against the defendant alleged him of abusing public trust and misconduct after allowing BND9,500 to be deposited into his personal bank account from an event manager participating in the Brunei December Festival 2020, which was under the defendant’s purview.

    He is also charged with misconduct after allegedly favouring two hotels in exchange for not having to make immediate payments after checkout. – Fadley Faisal
