Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, 51, indicted with multiple charges of misconduct in public office, yesterday introduced lawyers Roy Prabhakaran and Pengiran Khairul Nizam bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Yassin from law firm Yusof Halim and Partners to represent him.

No plea was entered yesterday, and Magistrate Harnita Zelda Skinner adjourned the case to July 25 for the newly appointed counsels to prepare for the case.

The defendant faces allegations of abuse of public trust and misconduct after allowing BND9,500 to be deposited into his personal bank account from an event manager participating in the Brunei December Festival 2020, which was under the defendant’s purview.

He is also charged with misconduct after allegedly favouring two hotels in exchange for not having to make immediate payments after checking out.
