The Tutong Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PKWE) takes pride in being part of the reasons for Brunei Darussalam getting recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the country that has implemented age-friendly practices earlier this year.
PKWE Tutong is also proud to be listed in the Global Data Base Age-Friendly Practices leading to the country given the recognition by the WHO. PKWE Tutong Manager Haji Hamaffi bin Mohd Yassin shared this in his welcoming remarks at the celebration to mark the 6th anniversary of the association yesterday at its premises in Jalan Sungai Basong.
Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin and Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Sengkarai Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan attended as the guests of honour.
Haji Hamaffi also highlighted the contributions and continuous support from Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh and said without them, the association would not get to enjoy their activities they have at the centre.
After having built the PKWE Tutong centre, officiated by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, who was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in 2017, Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh stepped in and built an extension building to the existing centre which was officially opened in 2019.
Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh saw the needs of better facilities for the elderly and the extension was able to provide a proper recreational space for the members to use sports equipment to keep themselves fit and healthy.
Meanwhile, the multipurpose hall is for the members to organise their events as well as a conference room for the committee to hold meetings.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam visited the centre on July 7, 2022 following a key presentation ceremony in the district.
The PKWE Tutong Centre features the extension building, the sports equipment and other facilities contributed by Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh at a cost of BND1 million.
He also acknowledged the continuous support made by Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz through his involvement in the centre.
“Since its establishment in 2017, PKWE Tutong has successfully conducted programmes and activities in collaboration with other organisations,” said former Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong. – Lyna Mohamad
