The Tutong District Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PKWE Tutong) held a ‘Ramah Mesra’ in conjunction with International Day of Older Persons at its multi-purpose hall yesterday.
Acting Tutong District Officer Awangku Arif Anuar bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad was the guest of honour.
Event chairperson Haji Hamaffi bin Md Yassin, in his welcoming address said, “The event is one of the highlights at the Senior Citizens Activity Centre in supporting the country’s desire to celebrate International Day of Older Persons together.”
He continued, “Besides strengthening the existing close ties between old and new members, it is also a sign of appreciation to remember and respect the good service of the elderly to the family, community, and country. It also aims to further increase piety to Allah the Almighty with full confidence and sincerity and to be a vehicle to work hard towards a life of good.”
He shared that the PKWE currently has 442 members and added that the centre is frequented daily by its members who implement and participate in programmes and beneficial activities, such as sharing knowledge across all fields with their fellow members.
The highlight of the morning’s event was the presentation of prizes and certificates from the PWKE to its members who have participated in contests and competitions, whether organised by the centre itself or the Community Development Department under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Prizes were awarded to members who participated in contests and competitions involving beadwork, cooking, 10-pin bowling and representing the centre during the Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran competition.
The event also featured several activities such as indoor games, where Hamaffi said that the spirit of participation is built towards having fun and not merely winning a prize.
He added that the indoor games provide an opportunity for its members to be creative and establish ideas based on educational elements.
