Seminar highlights importance of mental health, well-being

Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman attended the final session of the Knowledge Convention 2023 Seminar at the International Convention Centre in Berakas yesterday.

The session saw four papers delivered by clinical psychologist Nur Syahmun binti Haji Matassan, education officer Siti Hanisah binti Haji Othman, mosque affairs officer Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani bin Pengiran Haji Sellahuddin and special duties officer Muhammad Yusof bin Haji Abdul Majid.

In her presentation on The Importance of Mental Health Care and Well-Being in the 21st Century, Nur Syhamun addressed how mental health issues can be collectively overcome, emphasising on family and social support, physical healthcare, access to professional help, prayers and Munajat.

Siti Hanisah, on her paper, The Concept of Forgiveness: The Best Approach to Attain Happiness in Life, discussed the concept of forgiveness in Al-Quran and how a happy life can be had by embracing the virtue.

Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani presented a paper on Panduan Hidup Sehat Menurut Al-Quran where he spoke about the necessity for Muslims to lead their lives according to the guidelines set by Allah the Almighty.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Yusof delivered a paper on Fostering and Maintaining Mental Well-being Based on the Works of 9th Century Physician, Abu Zayd Al-Balkhi: Origin of Bodies and Souls, where he spoke about the contribution made by the physician in promoting mental well-being, examined the methods he used to treat mental illnesses, and explored the symptoms leading to mental disorder. – Rokiah Mahmud
