Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin recently attended the ASEAN-Korea Experts’ forum on the ‘Future of Education’ in Gumi, Korea.
The forum themed ‘The Future of Education: Roadmaps in the Digital Age and Educational Transformation’ was co-organised by Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam; Kyungwoon University and the ASEAN Secretariat. Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Education and Training, cum Chair of ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education Nguyen Van Phuc and Mayor of Gumi Kim Jang Ho officiated the forum. Nguyen Van Phuc in his opening remarks highlighted the need to increase cooperation on education by enhancing people-to-people mobility and promoting practical collaboration between Korea and the ASEAN member countries.
This first Gumi Education Forum aimed towards providing a platform for education stakeholders in sharing thoughts and reflections on the future of education amid lessons learnt from COVID-19 as well the promotion of collaboration and partnership between ASEAN and Korea.
The forum also saw three experts’ panellists comprising education senior officials from ASEAN and Korea sharing their take on the sub-theme of the forum on areas such as education policies, insights and transformation in education.
During the Plenary Session 1 themed ‘Education Policies for the Future on Climate and Crisis-Proofing Education in the Region’, Dr Shamsiah shared the MoE’s initiatives and actions, highlighting experience dealing with COVID-19 and the ministry’s continuous efforts towards minimising disruptions to teaching and learning. The delegation also toured Kyungwoon University and visited Gumi Industries.
