The Information Department continued its Semarak programme in conjunction with the 77th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the Community Hall Complex in the Tutong District yesterday.
Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw was welcomed to the event by Acting Director of Information Department Sastra Sarini binti Haji Julaini, and chairperson of the birthday celebration programme.
The programme saw a lecture on ‘Maqasid al-Syari’ah in Leadership’ by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Graduate School Director Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani who touched on classical Islamic thinkers who discussed and practised the sustainable development through the preservation and strengthening of Maqasid al-Syari’ah, covering five main components – protection of faith, life, lineage, intellect and property.
“Leadership patterns that embrace the concept of Maqasid al-Syari’ah include the banning of gambling premises, pig farming and alcohol, the establishment of Islamic financial institutions and universities, the enforcement of tobacco orders, the compulsory religious education, Syariah criminal penal code, closure of business premises during Friday prayers and upgrading of zakat collection and distribution department,” he said.
The guest of honour also toured a mini photography exhibition by the Photography Unit of the Information Department which captured special moments during the recent get-together ceremony in the Tutong District.
The programme, which is intended for all districts, focuses on government officials and staff; uniformed personnel; local private companies; associations and non-governmental organisations; higher education institute students; and mukim and village consultative council as well as mosque takmir committee members.
Legislative Council members Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee; Mukim Ukong Penghulu Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub; Kampong Sengkarai Village Head Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan and Acting Tutong District Officer Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri were also present at the event. – Azlan Othman
