Muslims are urged to preserve the sanctity of Aidilfitri by continuing the good deeds cultivated during Ramadhan and avoiding activities that displease Allah the Almighty, reminded a religious speaker during the latest ‘Masjidku Makmur, Negara Berkat’ programme.
Delivering a tazkirah titled ‘Semarak Aidilfitri’, certified religious da’ie Hamzah bin Haji Jali from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council emphasised that Aidilfitri is a day of returning to purity and celebrating the victory of Muslims after fulfilling the obligations of fasting for 29 or 30 days.
“Aidilfitri comes only once a year, and it should not be tainted by actions that invoke the wrath of Allah the Almighty, such as throwing wild parties or engaging in immoral acts that contradict the spirit of Ramadhan just observed,” he said.
He encouraged Muslims to maintain virtuous deeds such as giving charity, congregational prayers at the mosque, Al-Quran recitation, attending knowledge gatherings and zikir assemblies, as well as visiting and forgiving one another during the festive season.
The speaker also reminded the public to uphold proper etiquette while visiting others during Hari Raya. “Avoid visiting too late at night which may trouble the hosts, and maintain boundaries in interactions between men and women who are not mahram,” he added.
He called on the congregation to use Aidilfitri as a means to strengthen kinship ties among fellow Muslims and to remain committed to performing the five daily prayers, seeking the pleasure of Allah the Almighty even amidst celebrations.
The ‘Masjidku Makmur, Negara Berkat’ initiative was rolled out to encourage the public to consistently enliven mosques, particularly by performing the Subuh prayer in congregation. This initiative underscores the spiritual benefits and elevated rewards of communal prayer over praying alone.
The programme provides an opportunity for the community to gather at the mosque, offering not only the chance to fulfil religious obligations together but also to begin their day with spiritual contentment through collective remembrance (wirid) after prayers. – Fadley Faisal
