Self-development through art

The Belait District Branch of the Youth and Sports Department hosted a creative wellness programme yesterday, to provide a platform for youth to support the local community through an array of activities.

Held at its new office in Jalan Panglima, opposite the Golden Jubilee Recreational Park, Kuala Belait, the programme was attended by students from Pusat Bahagia Eric Goh, pre-vocational students from Perdana Wazir Secondary School, and members of the public.

Present to welcome the participants was Head of the Belait District Branch of the Youth and Sports Department Mohd Shah Johan bin Haji Shari. He was accompanied by officers and staff members. He said he was delighted to witness the programme being well-received that morning, noting that it “represents one of the many initiatives of the department to provide a platform for the youth to conduct activities beneficial to the community”.

He added that the premises will continue to conduct activities in line with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ vision of supporting the youth in the district.

The programme was conducted by instructor from the newly-formed group Creative Wellness Bn Esther Sim, who gave a short briefing and coached participants on blending the making of art with developing personal well-being. This included the use of art as a form of expression, promoting creativity and focus, as well as provide therapeutic value, while, creating a fun and meaningful learning experience.

Over the course of the programme, participants spent time sketching and painting and practised self-expression while discovering how others expressed themselves throught art.
