His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday called upon authorities to be sensitive on how to treat and tackle mental illness by referring to Al-Quran.
In a titah during the finals and prize presentation of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults for 1445 Hijrah, the monarch said the treatment and ways to tackle the much-talked about mental illness can be found in Al-Quran
“This is what we meant by guidance from Al-Quran by utilising all the teachings to tackle related problems,” said His Majesty.
“Al-Quran is a source of enlightenment and guidance in the worldly affairs and in the days of hereafter and is never wrong in giving guidance, as it is Kalamullah,” said the monarch.
”Hence, it is fortunate for people who are committed to Al-Quran to develop oneself and their nation with Al-Quran, meaning all plans and developmental works are guided by Al-Quran.
“Without a doubt, Al-Quran is a source of blessings and strength that is non-comparable to others. As such, Brunei Darussalam should not distance itself from Al-Quran. Even in education, Al-Quran has been categorised as a core subject.
“Let us embrace the teachings of Al-Quran by reading it consistently and to practise its guiding principle for the people and nation to gain blessings, peace and security,” said His Majesty. – Azlan Othman
