A private security personnel was jailed eight months by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to stealing from his station at the back office of a bank branch.
Mohammad Noor Azuan bin Sari Kula, 22, revealed that he stole computer devices because he wanted to study them in the interest of furthering his studies.
Prosecutor Ahmad Firdaus bin Mohammad also revealed that the defendant was stationed at the bank’s branch in Muara, and on April 8, part of his duty was to watch over the renovation works carried out at the time.
He was having his sahur meal when he noticed several computer devices being plugged onto the computers in the back office and on finishing his meal, he went to steal two computer RAMs, an HDMI cable converter along with two hard–disk drives.
He brought the items home at the end of his shift.
The bank staff realised that the computer devices had gone missing, checked the CCTV footage and lodged a police report on confirming the identify of the defendant with his employing company from a footage capturing his actions.
The devices, which contained confidential information, were retrieved by the police.
Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif took a starting point of 12 months’ jail and reduced it to eight months to reflect the defendant’s instant guilty plea.
