SDG insights through Halal Science Week

Students from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) is holding a Halal Science Week at the university’s Sinaut campus from February 18 to 26.

The programme, organised by the Halalan Thayyiban Student Society of the university’s Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre, is held in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre Director Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim attended the launch ceremony, along with UNISSA academics, staff and students.

Activities that are part of the programme include a thrift project, halal industrial food management demonstration, a forum on youth-led SDG initiatives and a soap making workshop. It will conclude with a Halal Science Camp at Bintudoh Greenspring Resort. The camp will also be held in conjunction with the 40th National Day celebration.

The youth forum on February 19 saw a panel comprising student representatives from higher learning institutions in the country, including Laksamana College of Business and Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan exchange of ideas and best practices to address sustainability challenges and advance progress towards the SDGs.

Around 128 students from higher learning institutions attended the forum.

The forum hoped to encourage collaboration among students in solving challenges faced by the society.  – Rokiah Mahmud
