    Scouts receive world membership badges

Nineteen members of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali’s (UNISSA) Rover Scout Crew 1102 were awarded World Scout membership badges in a special investiture ceremony at the university’s auditorium recently.

The event also marked the official wearing of the Rover Scout scarf and epaulets for the 6th intake of Rover Scouts, who completed 20 weeks of leadership and scouting skills training.

Director of the Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language at UNISSA Dr Supri bin Haji Sudin, the guest of honour, presented the badges alongside Chief Scout Commissioner of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) Haji Junaidi bin Haji Hussin.

National Scout Training Commissioner Zainudin bin Haji Ishak and UNISSA Rover Scout Leader Dr Mohammad Alif bin Haji Sismat were also present.

Nine scouts received the National Proficiency Badge, while 17 were awarded the Messengers of Peace badge and scarf. Participation certificates for various scouting activities were also distributed.

The UNISSA Rover Scout Crew, established on August 7, 2019, actively engages in community service while fostering leadership and scouting skills.

The World Rover Scout movement, founded in 1918, plays a vital role in the global scouting community. The World Scout membership badge is a mandatory recognition for new scouts, requiring them to undergo extensive training and assessments outlined in PPNBD’s Policy, Organisation, and Rules (POR).

Before earning their membership, the new Rover Scouts, known as ‘Squires,’ participated in structured training under the guidance of Dr Mohammad Alif and experienced scout trainers.

As part of their development, the scouts attended a self-leadership and induction course at Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam (OBBD) in Temburong District. Their experience concluded with a Vigil Investiture Ceremony, formally recognising them as Rover Scouts. – Fadley Faisal
