Scouts connect with peers online, on radio

The Brunei Darussalam Scout Association (PPNBD) recently connected with scouts around the world in the 66th Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and the 27th Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI), the world’s largest digital and radio scouting event.

The scouts’ Amateur Radio Club in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Amateur Radio Association, joined over two million scouts from October 20 to 22, connecting with each other via airwaves and digital platforms.

Participants connected with fellow scouts through very high frequency (VHF) amateur radio equipment as well as online video conferences with movements in the Asia-Pacific region.

PPNBD had set up an amateur radio station in the Brunei-Muara District at its headquarters in Beribi, with the call sign V84CBS to connect with fellow scouts in neighbouring countries.

On Monday, Deputy President of PPNBD Haji Metasim bin Duraman officiated the JOTA-JOTI 2023 activities in the Sultanate.

The JOTA-JOTI aims to help scouts gain confidence in communicating with other members of the movement around the world.

They also have the opportunity to learn the importance of communication equipment in today’s rapidly advancing technological landscape. – Rokiah Mahmud
