School pays tribute to teachers

Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan (CHMS BSB) paid tribute to its teachers and staff with a Teacher’s Day celebration at the school’s Darussalam Hall yesterday.

The ceremony saw 25 teachers and staff receive Long Service awards and 22 teachers certified as Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts.

Among the recipients were Tan Mee Lan, Kong Mok Fen and Ting Wuong Hee, who received their 40 years Long Service award.

Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of CHMS BSB Dr Muhammad Firdaus bin Abdul Rahman @ Dr Tan Kah Hock said, “The Teacher’s Day celebration instils the practice of respecting and appreciating the contribution of teachers.

“Times have changed, teachers are moving on from traditional methods. As science and technology progresses, education also undergoes changes using digital teaching innovations and the latest technologies.”

He added, ”Students should establish close relationships with their teachers and understand each other to work together to overcome problems that arise, whether it is a learning or personal problem.”

Meanwhile, CHMS BSB principal Kho Guik Lan said 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of CHMS. She said, “As we look back on the achievements the school has garnered over the past century, let us remember the pioneers who founded the school.”

On the school having been certified as a Microsoft Showcase school for nine consecutive years, she said, “Owing to the effort invested by the board of directors in creating a conducive learning environment, teachers are able to enhance their effectiveness while students have a chance to unleash their potential.

“Therefore, we are deeply appreciative of the board for their contribution, and the staff members for their dedication. Because of the collective efforts invested by everyone, our school has emerged as one of the top schools in Brunei.”

She added, “Quality teachers are the mainspring of transformation – that is the theme for, the Teacher’s Day celebration this year.

“We, as teachers, are obliged to keep abreast of the latest technological development in teaching. Only when we are equipped with the know-how and teaching strategies are we able to transform the way we cultivate young minds.”

The awards and certificates were presented by members of the school’s board of directors, including board Chairman Ong Tiong Oh.
