School hosts sports meet

St George’s School held its 33rd annual secondary sports meet at Berakas Sports Complex on Saturday.

Principal Janidi Jingan shared the benefits of sports, both in terms of health benefits as well as necessary life skills such as teamwork, cooperation and responsibilities in his opening remarks.

“With the widespread availability of mobile phones and online games, many children and adolescents tend to neglect physical activities of any kind,” he said.

He hoped that the sports meet could engage students through participation and sportsmanship.

The event began with a 200-metre (m) race, followed by the marching of all the four houses past the guest of honour and the singing of the national anthem.

Other events include 100m and 4x100m relay races as well as tug-of-war finals for boys and girls to determine the winning houses for this year.

Red House won both Best March Past and Best Team Spirit awards. Red House also won first place in tug-of-war for the girl’s category while Blue House took home first place for the boy’s category. Green House emerged as the overall champion house for 2024.

Chairman Anthony Liew Vun Chiang, the guest of honour and the school’s board of governors, were present on the day.
